Vanity Project Must-Have Items

The Desk
After a lot of measuring and consideration we went with the IKEA Alex drawer system and the IKEA Lagkaptan desk top. You can find the combination HERE to check it out yourself. We chose this system because the price was right and we could pick a desktop size that fit our space perfectly. Ikea products are so adaptable! Also… let’s talk about the drawers. There are so many for so many possibilities!
2. The Chair
Ok. I thought we were going to do a chair like the one at her desk. It made sense to match it, until it didn’t. The vanity area was just not wide or big enough to accommodate that wheelbase. So, if you find yourself creating a small area, consider a stool. We found this one:

This little stool slides in perfectly to the new desk and it has some hidden extra storage! What else can you ask for from a little seat?
3. The Mirror
Go big or go home with a vanity mirror, right? This was definitely a splurge item, but I don’t regret it one bit. There were a lot of choices for the size and shape and style of the vanity mirror. We went with this one and you might want to splurge on it too.

This mirror measures 31.5 by 26.5 and it’s on sale right now for 10% off and also has a $50 coupon discount. If you’re creating a space anytime soon, I would consider this gem. It’s worth the splurge.
4. The Vanity Protector
Think about it… liquid makeup, face cleansers, nail polish removers, lip glosses… the list goes on and on… all things that can easily spill and ruin your vanity top. Some vanities come with glass tops for protection, but if you’re creating your own you might need to come up with a plan. Because I have past experience with Ikea desktops, I know that a big spill can ruin them and cause them to bubble. My first thought was to buy a piece of glass from a local shop. I quickly changed my mind when I learned that the glass would cost around $160. The online glass shops weren’t much cheaper, so I went with another option. Before investing in a glass top, I decided to try vinyl.

This protection option cost around $25, so I think we will make this work for a little while. I’m going to heat it with a hair dryer to get it as flat as possible. So far I am happy with the cost, the functionality and the shiny finish.
5. The Organizers
I have to admit that buying organizers for any space is my favorite part. My daughter filled up the drawers with everything she wanted in each one and I took pictures of each drawer in its messy state. I measured the drawers and came up with a plan. I absolutely love the brand “like it” for organizing the inside of drawers. This is how it turned out:
