Label Ideas For Organizing Your Home
Because I want to take my home to a new level of organization, I am experimenting with labels to find out if they will change the way my family (and I) put things away. Firstly, I am going to experiment with my closet. While some people would consider my closet neat, I know in my heart there is disorganization hiding behind that outer appearance. It’s time to get real!
What You See:
Look at that! A Pinterest-perfect closet! But, is it really as perfect as it seems? No! It’s messy in there and I don’t even like all the shoes in the boxes. At least I’m honest with you… We are in this together.
To clarify, I love my boxes. They actually do make the space look amazing and they are functional. Despite having a custom closet and perfect organizers, I still have not taken this space to its full potential and it is time to try labels.
Love my boxes? You can own them too!

The Reality:
The ugly truth behind the bins. Although my closet can be made to look picture-perfect, it’s not. As you can see, perfectly placed containers are a great start to organizing space, but they are not the complete answer. In order to address this messy part of my life, I am turning to labels to create more order.
Do Labels Really Help?
As I have said, I’m far from perfect, BUT I am on a mission to organize my life fully this year. So, here’s one reason I want to try labels:
Do you know what I keep in my flour canister? FLOUR!
Compared to other areas in my home, my canisters are always organized. The flour gets poured into the proper container and it stays there until it’s low and the cycle just continues. For this reason, I feel that labeling other areas might just be a key element to getting my home more organized this year. As much as I make organization a priority in my home, I have not taken this last detailed step in many areas I know need to be labeled. Let’s try it together!
Closet Label Project
Confession: During the pandemic, we purchased a Cricut Maker to learn to make fun projects. I’m embarrassed to admit that it is 2023 and I’m just learning. Better late than never, right?
Although many areas in my home are screaming for labels and further organization, I started with my closet. Why? Well, because I wanted to have a little fun with my first project in hopes that it will keep the energy flowing.
If you have a Cricut, you can do this! Here’s what I used:
- Ikea Besta Boxes (the felt fabric works well with the iron-on vinyl)
- Cricut Maker(comes with the Cricut tools pictured)
- Green Cricut Standard Grip Cutting Mat
- Cricut Everyday Iron-On Vinyl
- Simple Black and Decker Iron
If you are new to the Cricut world like I am, then you need to find a great tutorial video. Thank you to the most amazing woman who helped me (without even knowing it) to complete my very first Cricut project. And, if you noticed in my pictures above, I failed at my first attempt. I’m not quite sure how I messed it up, but it happened and I had to start over. During any learning process, it’s ok to mess up, get things wrong and have to start all over again. Don’t get discouraged! Just keep learning and keep organizing!
