Best Tips To Clean A Large Dog Bed
1. Buy Two Beds That Are Washable.

Here’s the deal. I treat my dog beds kind of the way I treat my own bed. I own two sets of sheets to make my life easier and I need two dog beds for the same reason. Now, I didn’t do this right away. I waited until my first bed was old and gross before buying a new one. When my dog needs a bath, I change my dog bed cover to the fresh one and after Odie is clean and fresh he can enjoy his clean bed. There are other dog bed options that are made specifically to change covers.
My absolute new favorite is this one by Molly Mutt:

This brand is amazing and allows you to switch covers, pick filling and best of all there are indoor/ outdoor options.
2. Actually Cleaning Your Covers
If I’m being honest, my dog beds get dirty and nasty pretty fast. I have learned a few tricks that seem to get them cleaner than ever. First, I vacuum them like crazy. Next, I take the covers off and give them a good shake. (Odie sheds so I have both dirt and hair.) Then, I soak the bedding in a sink full of warm water and white vinegar. This mixture gets rid of the smell and stains at the same time. I do the initial wash in the sink to give my washing machine a break. If they are super dirty or stained, I spot wash them first or do a light hand wash in the sink with some dish soap. It really seems to help get rid of the heavy grime.
3. Replacement Padding
I don’t know about your dog beds, but mine seem to lose the fluffy padded feeling pretty quickly. Odie would go from sleeping on clouds to pretty much sleeping on the ground in no time. My covers long outlive the padding and stuffing. And let’s face it… the dogs want the comfort. I went on a quest to solve my issue and that’s when I discovered Molly Mutt. This company sells a “stuffy bag” that is used for bedding. You fill it yourself with old towels, blankets, t-shirts or rags to create the just right bed for your dog. It’s actually genius! You can then not only wash your dog bed cover, but you can wash the inside of your dog bed!

4. Find A Durable Head Rest
Odie like a dog bed with a headrest. And guess what? Those get flattened too! I have also had a head rest get pretty soiled once and the mess went through to the padding. Soiled padding isn’t usually washable, so it can ruin your entire bed… unless you get creative. I found that a certain foam pool noodle fits perfectly into the headrest area of Odie’s bed. It never falls apart and it’s wipeable and durable enough to withstand all of his antics.

5. My Biggest Piece Of Advice…
GO TO THE LAUNDROMAT IF POSSIBLE. I have definitely washed my covers in my home machine, but I really don’t like to. They are gross. Even when they aren’t looking too bad, they are still really dirty if your dog lies in them as much as Odie does. The laundromat is built for the big jobs. They have machines that handle bigger loads, dirtier clothes and you can add extra wash and rinse times to get them really clean. Try to make going to your local laundromat a part of your monthly schedule. Take other household items like blankets, duvets or couch covers. I run or walk while my loads are washing and drying so I look forward to my time there. It can be fun, if you make it fun!
