Nail Polish Remover

Ok… let’s be real… you need to clean your nails before you paint them. I grew up using Cutex nail polish remover and it still works. This is a top-rated remover and it’s less than $2.00! See… you can do this!
2. Best Nail Clippers

Cut those talons! Go on… just chop them. Our family owns this exact set of Nail Clippers and they work well for all of us. If you start by cutting a little length and making your nails even, you are on your way to looking more polished. These best-sellers are less than $10 and if you clip the coupon they are even cheaper.
3. The Amazing Cuticle Pusher

I grow cuticle at an alarming rate… I know TMI. This Tweezerman Dual Sided Pushy is like no other. It’s strong and sharp enough to separate the cuticle from the nail, but it’s thick enough to not jab into my skin too far. If you have ever used one of these, you get it. Long story short, you need this! It will push your cuticles back and make your nail beds uniform.
4. Cuticle Oil

Before you push your cuticles back too much, you might need to add some moisture. I have tried lots of cuticle oils, but I keep coming back to this simple vitamin E oil by Sally Hanson. It’s less than $6.00 on amazon and it’s just an oldie but goodie. Simply, brush it on with the built-in brush and watch your cuticles soften right away.
5. Cuticle Cutters

It’s time to be brave… especially when you start trying to cut with your non-dominant hand. Some people are not believers in cutting cuticle. Those people do not have the mounds of cuticle that I have. I cut mine and I love these Tweezerman cutters. Just go slow and be careful. Once you get the hang of it, your nails will be in tip top shape. I use the oil before I attempt to cut because cuticles can often get dry and bleed. YOU CAN DO THIS!
6. All In One Nail File

If you’re looking for a one stop shop nail file this all in one Revlon nail file is the one for you. It shapes, it files, it buffs and it shines your nails. Priced at a little over $3.00, it’s a steal for what it can do for your at home manicure. If you’re just getting one file… check this one out first.
7. My Favorite Nail File Of All Time

I didn’t grow up with anything like this. This is a GLASS nail file… what? This crystal glass nail file amazes me every single time I use it. I don’t know how to describe it, other than to say that it is very detail oriented. It shapes nails to perfection and it’s gentle. It works on natural, gel and acrylic nails – so if you opted to visit the salon… you can still use this to add shape or buff out a rough spot. They come in tons of colors and they cost a little less than $8.00. Oh, and they make great gifts!
8. The Buffer

Once you’re all filed, you will want to buff. You know you have to, the pros do it every single time. This little gem got super high ratings and you can buy replacement surfaces, but it’s a little more expensive than I expected. At almost $14, this Onsen Nail Buffer promises to bring you a professional finish. We are trying to be at home professionals, so if you’re up for a splurge product, check this one out!
9. Base Coat

Who doesn’t love an OPI nail product? They just know how to do it. This base coat has almost 10,000 reviews and people just love it. A great looking paint job starts with a strong base and this OPI natural nail base coat does the job. Let’s start painting!
10. The Color

Ok… I am bias. I know a few things about doing your own nails at home. The main thing I learned is that a little sheer hides a lot of mistakes. This Essie Ballet Slippers polish looks good on everyone, hides little polish mistakes, gives you a natural look and can pull off a dress or jeans look. I think it’s timeless. If you start with one color, I really hope you consider this polish. I don’t think you will be disappointed. And, I’ll confess… I tried to go with a more opaque polish my first time and took it off and switched to this one. Now I’m rocking cuter nails!
11. The Top Coat

Raise your hand if you’re impatient! Ok… by the time I am adding top coat, I’m a little over this whole at home manicure thing. This speed setter top coat by Essie is a winner for me. Honestly, by the time I cut, file and oil and base coat and paint… I’m just kind of done. If you want to be done with this whole process just a little faster, this is the top coat you have been looking for!
