Are you looking for under-the-sink organization ideas for your kitchen? I have reorganized that space in my house more times than I would like to admit, but I think I solved it this time. (I’m crossing my fingers.) I’m going to share what finally worked for me, and it might work for you, too!
If you’re anything like me, you are looking for ways to simplify all the areas in your house. And that includes the small awkward spaces, like under your kitchen sink. I sorted through tons of under the sink organization ideas until I found a few that made sense. If you’ve tried a few things and still have a mess, I feel your pain. I was there, too. But it’s worth another try to get this area right.
I’m going to share the exact products I’ve tried and what worked, how I organized around the garbage disposal and water filter, and how I made this small awkward space completely functional.
This post is all about the best under the sink organization ideas for your kitchen.
The Best Under The Sink Organization Ideas
1. Start With Your Base
A good organization project considers everything, and in this case, that means your base. If you have ever experienced a leak under your sink, you know it can cause a damaged base. I have had more than one leak and have a very damaged base. The mat not only covers the condition of my sink base, but it also protects it from future water damage. It’s a win-win to add a mat.
If you have pipes or valves coming up through your base, you can still add a mat. They are very easy to cut! I opted for an inexpensive mat so if I had any trouble cutting it, I wouldn’t feel like I wasted money. It only took me a few minutes to line my mat up and slice through it with a razor blade to accommodate my pipes.
Here are links to a few mat ideas for your kitchen: (Don’t forget to measure more than once!)
- My Exact Mat – This mat comes in both grey and black and 6 sizes. It costs less than $15 and is easy to cut.
- 5 Star Rated Mat that comes in 5 colors and 15 sizes! (It’s less than $20.)
- Mat that holds over 3 gallons of water! This mat comes in 11 colors and 10 sizes!
2. Mount Your Power Cord
Leaks happen, meaning if you have power cords under your sink, they can get soaked with water. Again, this happened to me. My mom told me there are mounting holes on the back of most power strips. And, guess what? She’s right! (again).
If you’re worried about nailing or screwing through your cabinet, don’t sweat it. My power cord is hanging there with a tack! It took just a minute to mount, and now I don’t have to worry about it ever getting wet again! Try it!

3. Contain your Garbage Bags
I have tried a few different storage options for my garbage bags, but nothing worked well. That was until I bought a garbage bag storage box! It took some searching, but I found one that will hold the Costco-sized rolls. There was only one problem: the lid to it was brown. There was one other option, but people complained that it was completely open on one side, and I didn’t want one like that. I decided to cover the top of the lid with white contact paper to make things match, and it works perfectly!
Here Are A Few Garbage Bag Container Ideas:
- My Exact Holder – This one will easily accommodate a Costco roll but comes with a brown lid.
- Garbage Bag Holder That Mounts On Your Cabinet Door – This is a great option for a standard roll of bags to stay organized without taking up valuable space.

4. Dishpod Dispensers Just Look Nicer
Decanting might feel overwhelming when you first start to organize, but with the right containers in place, it’s really a dump-and-go situation. It doesn’t take much effort to empty a box of pods into a cute container. Let’s face it, it just looks better. I opted for one with extra storage for my homemade scrubbing pads. (Thank you, Mom.) There are endless options for storing your dishpods. I used to use an extra large mason jar, which looked cute but didn’t work as well in my new space.
Here Are A Few Dish Pod Storage Links:
- My Exact Storage Container – as shown above. (without labels)
- Dish Pod Storage That Mounts To The Cabinet Door – This will allow you to free up sink base space.
- Asthetic Container Pre-labeled in a Farmhouse Style– This adorable container will take your organization to the next level. It is perfect for someone looking for a white labeled container.
5. Contain Your Cleaning Supplies
Cleaning supplies always end up under the kitchen sink. Dish and hand soaps, floor cleaners, oven cleaners, stainless steel shiners, the list goes on and on. My advice to keep them neat is to declutter what you don’t need or use and organize the rest in some sort of container. As always, the cuter, the better. If you need more convincing, consider that a container will make any spills or drips easy to clean up.
If you’re looking for a cute cleaning container, search no further.
- My Exact Cleaning Container –I have these containers all over my house. Can’t beat $3.99 from Ikea!
- Cleaning Container With Handles – If you want to take your cleaning to other rooms, this cute one with handles could be just what you need, and it comes in 6 different colors.
- Double Layer Container – If you have a lot left to store, you might need two shelves to fit it all. Check out this one built just right to fit under a kitchen sink.
6. Hang Your Rubber Gloves
Another lesson I learned the hard way was that rubber gloves can trap water and start to SMELL. Then, when you use them to clean, your HANDS SMELL. It’s really gross. Also, I used to just kind of toss my gloves under the sink, and they looked messy, and it took me more than a minute to find them each time. When I made over this space, I added a little clip to hang my gloves, and it solved all of the problems. They are now able to air out, and I can easily find them! Try it!
